Sights to see in Savonlinna region

Many interesting sights are available at a short distance from Kerimäki and hotel Herttua.

In Kerimäki you can visit the worlds largest wooden church with over 3000 seats. The height of the nave is 27 metres. It has been built in 1847. The church is open daily from June to August, other times by appointment.

One of the best-known historical attractions in Finland is Olavinlinna castle in Savonlinna about 25 km from Herttua. Savonlinna Opera Festival and Savonlinna Ballet Festival is arranged in the castle every summer. The castle is open to the public all year round.

In Punkaharju about 25 km from Herttua is located The Retretti Art Centre. This art centre is famous for underground caves which are used as exibition rooms. It is open daily from 3 June to 29 August.

Lusto the Finnish Forest Museum is also located in Punkaharju. There is an basic exhibition Discovering the Forest and virtual natural experience called The room of Silence, also changing exhibitions. Open daily from May to September, during other months from Tuesday till Sunday.
